Fantasy MLS

Today, MLS opened up their annual fantasy league at fantasy.mlssoccer.com.  There are a bunch of rules around transactions and scoring on the Rules page, but the main guidelines are that you have to select 18 players (2G, 6D, 6M, 4F) with a $120M budget.  This only gives you and average of $6.66M to spend on each player.  Better players cost more than benchwarmers and you can select a maximum of 4 players per MLS team.

Here is a rundown of the highest cost players at each position:

Fwd:  $11.0M = Keane, Martins; $10.5M = Higuain, Wright-Phillips, Wondolowski, Dwyer; $10.0M = Espindola, E. (Cubo) Torres, Villa

Mid:  $11.0M = Nguyen, Kaka, Dempsey, Giovinco, P. Morales (VAN); $10.5M = J. Morales (RSL), Zusi; $10.0M = J. Jones, Valeri, Bradley

Def:  $9.0M = Boswell, Hedges, O. Gonzalez, Goncalves, Besler

GK:  $6.0M = Hamid, Penedo, Rimando

There are a few bargains out there… but I won’t give away who I selected.  Contact me if you’d like me to start a private league.  I plan to join a few (Seeing Red, Soccer Morning, American Outlaws, etc).  May the best team win.

If you play EPL fantasy, the only major differences are that in this league, you select 18 players with a $120M budget, while in EPL it’s 15 players with £100M AND there is no Vice Captain in the MLS version.  If your Captain doesn’t play, you lose the double-points bonus.

See you on March 6th!
